Beidou, making traditional grazing a thing of the past

Every year in June and July, the pasture is lush green, and the livestock on the grassland also enter the summer fattening season. With the assistance of the Beidou satellite navigation system, scientific and intelligent grazing have been deeply promoted in many areas. The traditional grazing mode of "cattle and sheep follow the water and grass, and herdsmen follow the cattle and sheep" has become a thing of the past. "Watching TV at home while using mobile phones for grazing" is now the norm for herdsmen to graze.

How do herdsmen know the location of their livestock with just one mobile phone?

Herdsmen have installed Beidou positioning terminals such as "Beidou collars", "Beidou camel bells", and "positioning ear tag chips" on their cattle and sheep. Through the precise positioning of the Beidou system, they can obtain the real-time position of cattle, sheep, and other livestock in real time.

In this way, information such as which cattle and sheep are eating, where they are grazing, and what kind of grass they are eating is clear at a glance. Not only that, herdsmen can also track the movements of their livestock in the past few days or even earlier.

When livestock such as cows and sheep exceed the electronic fence, an alarm can be triggered and the information transmitted to the herdsmen's mobile phones; At the same time, it can also recommend the best recovery route for herders and help them recover their distant cattle and sheep in a timely manner.

The high-precision positioning, time service and short message service of Beidou system collide with the Internet, big data, cloud computing, etc., and the released energy boosts the intelligent grazing, enabling more refined and intelligent remote management of livestock.

Once upon a time, herdsmen rode motorcycles or horses back and forth for tens of kilometers in icy and snowy conditions, just to get a sip of water for their cattle and sheep. Nowadays, with simple operations on a mobile phone, the sink can automatically drain water, automatically sense the water level, and even book the water supply time in advance.

The remote well monitoring system developed based on the Beidou system can achieve automatic water level sensing and timed water discharge in the water tank with just one click operation on the mobile phone, even in unmanned areas where mobile network signals cannot cover. At the same time, herdsmen can also set a fixed water supply time, allowing the controller to automatically start the pump to supply water until the tank is full, achieving remote water supply.

As early as 2020, herders in Altay, Xinjiang, achieved "Beidou grazing". Local herders said, "In the past, it used to take tens of miles or even farther to retrieve cattle and sheep every day. Now, with Beidou positioning, it is easy to find them, and we don't have to suffer in the grassland anymore

At the end of June this year, 832 sheep belonging to the herder Erdenchaola in Diaoerliji Village, Yanchiwan Township, Subei County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, were implanted with positioning chips, which is equivalent to issuing electronic "ID cards" to the sheep. Each sheep has its own identification code, achieving real-time positioning and track tracking traceability of organic grassland grazing herds; At the same time, personnel from the Ranch Technology Company distributed Beidou handheld terminals and Beidou sheep collars to townships. This precise positioning management is very important for the entire process management of ranch breeding, as well as the development of digital organic ecological pastures, high standard slaughter cold chain processing, and so on.

Herdsmen in Alxa, Inner Mongolia, Ulan, Qinghai and other places can accurately determine the position of camels by wearing "Beidou Camel Bell" positioning collars on them. The collar integrates functions such as solar charging, flash night vision, and outlier alarm, making it very convenient; The smart grazing platform can monitor the temperature, humidity, rainfall, and number of livestock carried in the grassland environment in real time. The application of technologies such as Beidou has not only stimulated the enthusiasm of herdsmen for animal husbandry, but also activated the camel breeding industry chain, effectively promoting the sustainable development of camel industry in many areas.

At present, there are over 20000 sets of Beidou intelligent grazing positioning collars, with broad prospects and enormous potential. In the future, grazing spatiotemporal data based on Beidou can be integrated with remote sensing data of pastures and various technologies such as cloud computing, deep learning, and artificial intelligence, greatly enriching the functions of intelligent grazing, realizing intelligent monitoring, intelligent warning, grazing planning, and rational allocation of pasture resources, providing important spatiotemporal guarantees for herdsmen to increase income and contribute wisdom to the sustainable development of China's animal husbandry industry.
